Students starting 1st grade in 2024-2025

Who can participate?

This program seeks enrollment of students from varying backgrounds and abilities.  All students currently enrolled in Kindergarten, 2023-2024 school year are welcome to enroll for their 1st grade student.

How do I apply?

The application will be available online February 2, 2024 on the Discovery Elem. School web site under Dual Immersion.  Applications are due by March 15, 2024 at 4:00 pm. After that date a lottery will be held to determine placement.  Discovery will continue to accept applications after that date until the program is full.  If the program is full, applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

If you live out of Discovery Elementary school boundaries, you will need to submit an Open Enrollment Plan to the school by 4:00 pm Feb 16, 2024.  ( Form is available at Uintah School district website)

How are students selected for the program?

50-60 students will be chosen to participate in this program.  Discovery Elementary will hold a lottery system to identify the students that will participate.  Priority will be given to the following groups.

  1. Students with parents that work at Discovery Elementary.
  2.  Students with parents that work for Uintah School District.
  3. Students whose native language is Spanish.
  4. Siblings of students already in the program.
  5. Students who transfer from a Dual Immersion program in Spanish from another school.
  6. Students from within school boundaries.
  7. Students from within the Uintah school district, but out of the Discovery school boundaries.

Important information:

  • Students will be selected by a lottery system.  Filling out the application does not guarantee enrollment in the program.
  • Parents and guardians are responsible for transporting to and from school unless the child lives within the school boundaries and is deemed eligible to ride the neighborhood bus.
  • Parents and guardians will need to sign the commitment document as part of the application process for their child to be considered.
